It is a striker packed edition of Transfer Talk today, as top sides hunt the goals to spark their season. Manchester United however are preparing to sell last season’s top scorer Dimitar Berbatov.
He has been linked with German clubs Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich after dropping down to fourth choice striker at Old Trafford.
Despite scoring six goals in the last month, United are considering letting him go for as little as £6 million. The question is will they sign a replacement or hope Michael Owen avoids injury?
Berbatov to leave Manchester United?
Bolton want Spurs reserve Gio Dos Santos according to today’s Mirror. The relegation threatened club want to use a portion of the cash from the Gary Cahill deal to spend on their forward line, rather than their leaky defence.
The Mexican is certainly keen to leave White Hart Lane, having never settled, but would a move to the north of England be his ideal choice?
Possibly not, but beggars can’t be choosers, and Owen Coyle would at least offer him regular football and a stepping stone to reignite his career, if the £4 million deal goes ahead.
The only midfielder in our top-heavy list of transfer targets today is Blackburn Rovers‘ powerhouse Steven N’Zonzi.
With his physical style it is perhaps no surprise to learn Stoke City are interested, and also QPR who seem to be applying a scattergun approach to the transfer market at present. Both have submitted bids of around £4 million which Rovers have turned down.
Fellow Blackburn players Junior Hoilett and Christopher Samba have regularly been linked away, and the N’Zonzi rumour is a new one, but Steve Kean is holding strong and it is highly unlikely all three will be permitted to leave.
Hold the phone, Everton are looking at signing a striker.
Edson Buddle USA international and former teammate of Landon Donovan at LA Galaxy is on trial.
This could be a good deal, with Louis Saha seemingly allergic to scoring goals this season, Everton need goals from somewhere, and if Buddle can come in and net a few goals, it could be genius from Moyes. Everton have nothing to lose on this one so may as well go for it.
He is on loan from a German second division side where he has scored nine goals, and they have permitted his trial to go ahead.
And finally, Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe could be heading out of the Lane if reports are to be believed.
The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool are preparing a bid after their goal-shy exploits of late.
Whether Tottenham would sell to a rival is another matter, and Liverpool have to look elsewhere.
Our early article of the day asks if Liverpool do indeed need another striker, and what their options could be.
