As Newcastle continue their search for both a manager and a Director of Football, transfer expert Christian Falk has shared some interesting news.
What’s the story?
Well, there are a number of candidates for both roles at Newcastle.
The likes of Lucien Favre, Paulo Fonseca, Eddie Howe and Erik ten Hag have been mentioned as possible replacements for Steve Bruce.
In terms of a Director of Football, names like Marc Overmars and Luis Campos have been mentioned.
Interestingly, Falk name-dropped Favre and Overmars when revealing that the pair actually know each other.
Speaking to BILD, the journalist said: “Favre and Overmars would harmonise very well, they know each other in the system. Fonseca and Rangnick are currently out of the picture, but they are also candidates.”
Now, that certainly adds an interesting dimension to Amanda Staveley and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia’s search.
Lucien Favre and Marc Overmars could thrive at Newcastle

It’s crucial to have joined-up thinking at a football club, and for everyone to be on the same page – especially a manager and a Director of Football.
In that respect, it seems a bit of a no-brainer for Newcastle to hire the pair, as they won’t need to waste anytime getting to know each other.
Falk believes the pair would ‘harmonise’ together, which is exactly what Newcastle need to kickstart this new revolution on Tyneside.
The same could be said about Ten Hag, who is currently working with Overmars at Ajax and to great effect, it must be said.

According to BILD, Favre is now the leading candidate to replace Bruce, leapfrogging Fonseca in the race.
With Overmars, the Mirror claimed that talks are ongoing, with the Dutchman expecting a £2.5m-a-year salary.
Keep an eye on this situation, as PIF will surely want to have both roles filled as soon as possible.
