LAFC have presented goalkeeper Hugo Lloris having snapped up the French goalkeeper from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the new MLS season.

It would have been easy for Tottenham fans to forget that Hugo Lloris was even still at the club through the first half of the season.

The Frenchman last appeared in a Spurs shirt in the embarrassing 6-1 defeat away at Newcastle United in April.

Lloris was then ruled out with a thigh problem and Tottenham decided to go in a new direction over the summer.

In came Guglielmo Vicario with Lloris effectively frozen out and made available for transfer – but he didn’t move on before the summer deadline.

Lloris finally landed his move away from Spurs in December, agreeing to join MLS side LAFC after more than 10 years of service to Tottenham having joined from Lyon for £12million back in 2012.

LAFC celebrate Hugo Lloris deal

Lloris will be with LAFC for the 2024 MLS season with an option to extend the deal by another two years if all parties agree.

LAFC lost the MLS Cup final last season, losing to Columbus Crew in an enormous disappointment.

Now looking to go one better, Lloris is seen as a key signing given his vast Premier League experience and his history as a World Cup winner.

LAFC general manager John Thorrington has now praised Lloris having presented him as a new LAFC signing on Wednesday.

Thorrington believes that the chance to sign Lloris was a ‘rare’ opportunity, praising what he has accomplished in the game.

Thorrington also claims that he has already seen exactly why Lloris has been such a star over the years, predicting that he will have a big impact on the club.

“It’s rare that an MLS team and a team in general is able to sign a World Cup-winning captain and when the opportunity presented itself to sign Hugo and bring him to LAFC, we jumped at the opportunity,” said Thorrington. “It did not take long for me and for us and the club to see exactly why Hugo has had that the success he has had. I think everybody can see what he does on the field, but I already can see and sense and feel the impact he will have on this group,” he added.

Spurs fans had a soft spot for LAFC during Gareth Bale’s time at the club and it may well be a similar story now Lloris is there.

The Frenchman needed a fresh start away from Tottenham and with the 2024 MLS season on the horizon, Tottenham supporters will surely keep an eye on his progress in the States.
