Cork’s contract expires in the summer, and that seems the only reason why Swansea are being touted as a potential destination for the central midfielder.
Although this uncertainty may be enough encourage some players to move on, Cork is almost certain to be offered a near contract in the future – even if he hasn’t got one yet.
The Englishman has played a major part in the club’s success so far and he is likely to receive a new deal in the coming weeks.
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has already expressed a desire to keep hold of Cork and nothing he will have seen so far would have changed his mind.
The 25-year-old has added goals to his game this season and his energy in midfield has caught the eye of all watchers as Southampton have climbed into the top-two.
To leave this Champions League push in January is something which simply wouldn’t make sense, especially as he would be making a step down to do so.
Swansea are an example club for many teams to follow, but they are below the Saints in terms of reputation, ability and stature so for Cork to take the move when he is playing the best football of his career would make no sense.
It may have been touted as a possibility, but this is a rumour which only belongs in the transfer bin.
