Everton have been linked with a huge move for Sead Kolasinac – but the numbers don’t quite add up.

According to a report in the most recent edition of Sport BILD, Everton have offered a stunning €10m-a-year (£8.5million) deal to Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac – but this rumour is being placed in the HITC Transfer Bin.
Kolasinac, 23, had spells with Hoffenheim and Stuttgart before joining Schalke in 2012, and he has since become a key first-team player for the Gelsenkirchen club, especially since left back Christian Fuchs left the club for Leicester in 2015.
A Bosnian international with 17 caps to his name, Kolasinac has become one of the Bundesliga’s top left backs during his time with Schalke, making almost 100 league appearances for Schalke.
However, much like how Joel Matip left the club for Liverpool last summer, Kolasinac is out of contract at the end of the season, and can move on for free.
Sport BILD claim that Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham have all offered Kolasinac a deal worth around €6million-a-year (£5.125million) in a bid to win the race for his signature – but it’s claimed that Everton have actually made the biggest offer so far.
It’s stated that the Toffees have offered Kolasinac a huge deal worth €10million-a-year (£8.5million), which equates to around £160,000-a-week for the young defender; but the numbers just don’t add up.
Sead Kolasinac playing for Schalke
Whilst Everton can afford to give Kolasinac greater wages due to the fact that they wouldn’t be paying a transfer fee, £160,000-a-week is greater than the offer Everton made to star striker Romelu Lukaku last month.
Lukaku has proven himself in the Premier League and shown that he is worth such huge wages, but Kolasinac hasn’t done that, and it seems unlikely that Everton would offer such huge money to a player like Kolasinac, who is far from a household name.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman may well be keen on a new left back to challenge Leighton Baines, but offering such a huge deal would suggest that Kolasianc would be Everton’s new first-choice – and with a young player to develop, on much less money, more of what Everton need right now, this rumour ends up in our transfer bin.
