Roma fans have turned on Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United transfer target Nicolo Zaniolo by unveiling a banner calling him a ‘traitor’.

During the January transfer window, Zaniolo has been the subject of interest from many Premier League clubs, which saw the midfielder miss Roma’s win over Spezia Calcio and it didn’t go down well with his own supporters.

The 23-year-old was accused of having ‘no honour’ and being a ‘traitor’, as well as other expletives being used by the angry supporters from Rome.

WILL ZANIOLO GET A MOVE ON TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY?

This is perhaps a relationship that will prove to be very hard to fix for the attack-minded star and it’s probably best he does look for that move before Tuesday evening’s cut-off point.

There were previous claims that Bournemouth saw a £31 million bid for Zaniolo accepted by Roma, but the player in question didn’t want that move.

One thing that can’t be questioned about the 11-cap Italy international is the talent in his boots and he would be a player that would fit in at both Spurs and Newcastle.

Both clubs are pushing for Champions League football and the business they conclude during these next 24 hours could be crucial in their quest to finish in the top four.

That was proven by both clubs last season when the January transfer window provided Newcastle with a lift to survive relegation and set a strong base for this currently outstanding campaign.

Whilst for Spurs, they signed Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur last January, who provided the much-needed lease of life that helped them pip fourth spot ahead of rivals Arsenal.
