Tracy McGrady says the Golden State Warriors are taking everyone by surprise with how they’ve opened the season.

The Warriors just picked up their fourth win, beating the LA Clippers to improve to 4-1 on the year.

Several of their key players have hit the ground running, with Jonathan Kuminga earning a starting spot thanks to Steve Kerr’s trust in him.

In their last game, four different Warriors scored over 20 points – and none of them were Stephen Curry.

Curry had mentioned that others on the team needed to step up alongside their veterans. With young players starting to break through, Tracy McGrady believes this group could end up surprising a lot of people this season.

Tracy McGrady sees Golden State quietly moving into title conversation

Tracy McGrady shared his thoughts on the Warriors during NBC’s post-game coverage following their win over the Clippers, noting how strong they’ve looked early in the season.

McGrady pointed out that while Golden State weren’t discussed as title favourites before the season began, he believes that by April they’ll be in the mix.

“Golden State, look out. We didn’t talk about them in preseason about championship. I’m talking. They’re gonna creep in there and be a contender.”

The lack of preseason hype around Golden State mostly stemmed from questions about their lineup, especially regarding Jonathan Kuminga’s role.

Once things became clearer, though, there was a general sense that their experienced core had enough quality to make a push for another championship.

Golden State Warriors playing well, but it’s a long season

The Warriors are off to a great start this season, with the team looking sharp and players coming together quickly.

It’s been the younger players stepping up for the veterans, regularly putting up strong numbers to open the year.

But while it’s been an encouraging opening stretch, consistency will be key if they want to keep this momentum going through the full season.

Their veteran core is impressive, but given their age, it’s unlikely they can sustain top-level play across all 82 games without some support from the rest of the squad.
