‘Who?’: Rangers fans react as Steven Gerrard’s first opponents are confirmed

Rangers supporters react to the news that Macedonian side FK Shkupi will be their opponents in their first round qualifier for the Europa League.

Rangers have been drawn against Macedonian outfit FK Shkupi in the first round of qualifying for the 2018/19 Europa League, in what will also be Steven Gerrard’s first competitive game in charge.

The first game will take place on July 12 at Ibrox, with the second leg a week later at their 6000-seater stadium in the capital Skopje, and the Gers will go into the tie as hot favourites, despite being under the guidance of managerial novice Gerrard.

FK Shkupi only finished fourth in last season’s Macedonian First League, and shouldn’t pose a huge threat. That said, Rangers did suffer an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn under former manager Pedro Caixinha last year.

Gerrard will be under some pressure to avoid a repeat of those humiliating scenes, but likely won’t have too much trouble masterminding a positive result, especially at home in front of pumped up crowd.
