As reported by fichajes.net, Everton are interested in signing Girona defender Juanpe Ramirez.

The 27-year-old had a great season in 2017/18, helping his team to a 10th-placed finish in La Liga against the odds, and his consistency has alerted a number of clubs around Europe.

Fichajes report that the defender’s buyout clause is £8.8million, and Everton face competition in the form of Freiberg and Sevilla, but the Toffees will likely be able to offer the player a better pay day.

The Blues are in the market for at least one new central defender this summer after the struggles of Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka last season.

The pair are 33 and 35 respectively, and there is a serious lack of mobility in the Everton backline – so signing Ramirez could be just the ticket.

Although no spring chicken at 27, the Spaniard is considered one of the most underrated defenders in La Liga, and even has an eye for goal having netted five times last term.

In today’s market £8.8 million is a steal, and with Everton in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, it’ll be important for them to allow the other teams no chance to steal in. If they can follow the signing up with a Matthijs de Ligt or a Ben Gibson then Marco Silva will have addressed an area of significant weakness.
