QPR ‘nowhere near valuation’ for Nottingham Forest defender

Stuart Pearce has bluntly dismissed Queens Park Rangers’ bid for Jamaal Lascelles.

The west London club had reportedly bid £4 million for the 20-year-old, with interest in Lascelles said to be high among Premier League clubs.

But new Forest boss Pearce insists ‘there is no pressure to sell’ and that QPR have fallen well short of their valuation of the defender.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: “QPR have put money on the table but nowhere near a valuation the boy is worth.

“There’s no pressure to sell. I’m here to build a squad, not dismantle one.

“The only way I would let anyone go is if I felt I could reinvest the money to make us stronger the day after, but apart from that the best players stay here.”

In recent days, Goal.com have reported that Lascelles is also a target for Liverpool and Manchester City, while the Daily Mail have said that Tottenham will look to sign the Forest star.

Harry Redknapp is reportedly a huge fan of the 20-year-old, however, and is seemingly keen on bringing him to Loftus Road and beat the competition.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Rs will have to spend £8 million to land Lascelles – the same amount that has been quoted for Cardiff City centre-back Steven Caulker.

QPR have already strengthened their defence by handing left-back Armand Traore a new deal, with Rio Ferdinand set to sign for the west London club, too.
