Newcastle United are reportedly still interested in Loic Remy and Alexandre Lacazette.

The Magpies are said to be monitoring both Frenchmen, with a view to signing their fourth forward of the summer.

But which of the two represents the better option for Alan Pardew’s side?

In Remy, Newcastle will be getting a man they now know well.

As Opta stats show, the 27-year-old was Pardew’s main source of goals last season, while he also made three assists and won 29 dribbles.

In the air, Remy was reasonably accomplished too – and the fact that he spent last term on loan at St James’ Park means he will need far less time to settle.

Financially, any transfer would come down to Remy’s wages as the Frenchman’s release clause is reportedly £15 million for a side outside the top six – the same price Newcastle have agreed for Lacazette, if some reports are to be believed.

In their other French target, Newcastle’s main advantage will be that they are getting a striker four years Remy’s junior.

As such, Lacazette can be said to have plenty more unlocked potential than Queens Park Rangers forward Remy. But will that potential become a reality if the 23-year-old struggles to adapt to English football?

Another aspect to consider is that Lacazette has Champions League experience. That works in Newcastle’s favour on the one hand, though it is also a reported reason that the Frenchman is having doubts about moving to Tyneside. Lyon are in this season’s Europa League, whereas the Magpies are not part of any European competition.

Last term, Lacazette was Ligue 1’s seventh-highest scorer, netting 15 times (one more than Remy in the Premier Leauge). The tallies, though, are not far apart, meaning it is a close call between the two candidates.

Both strikers will need convincing to leave their clubs and will likely set Newcastle back £15 million. Remy has experience and knowledge of English football on his side, while Lacazette is the younger and, perhaps, more talented prospect of the two.
