The club took to their official website to inform supporters how existing season ticket holders can renew ahead of the 2018/19 season, but some were shocked to see a huge hike when it came to paying.
The club finished a very respectable 10th in the Premier League last season after their promotion from the Championship a year ago, but it hasn’t all been plain sailing, with a takeover bid from Amanda Staveley failing to materialise halfway through, and Rafa Benitez becoming frustrated with Mike Ashley’s lack of financial support.
Despite the rocky road, Magpies supporters stuck by their team and played a huge part in the team’s safe navigation away from danger towards the end, and those supporters are now feeling hard done by as they face paying even more to continue their support next season.
It’s a frustrating situation for them, especially since they had anticipated Ashley to have sold the club by last Christmas.
