The former Reds defender is reportedly close to sealing a move to Aston Villa.
Liverpool could be seeing a familiar face next September, as Aly Cissokho nears a return to the Premier League.
According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa have almost agreed a fee for the 26-year-old left-back, who spent last season on loan at Anfield.
And, should the deal go through, Cissokho could face the Reds as early as next month, when Villa travel to Merseyside in the Premier Leauge.
The Frenchman made 19 appearances for Liverpool last season – 15 of them in the league, though fans were often left underwhelmed by his performances.
| Team | Accurate Cross / apps | Won Tackle / apps | Apps | Mins | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José Enrique | Liverpool | 0.38 | 1.00 | 8 | 602 |
| Glen Johnson | Liverpool | 0.17 | 1.79 | 29 | 2,521 |
| Aly Cissokho | Liverpool | 0.13 | 1.40 | 15 | 1,089 |
| Jon Flanagan | Liverpool | 0.09 | 2.57 | 23 | 1,898 |
As Opta stats show, Jose Enrique’s season was cut short by injury and Cissokho’s attempts to deputise left a lot to be desired in terms of his crossing ability.
He did fare better defensively but, not before long, Jon Flanagan had made the left-back position his own, averaging over a tackle more per game than the Frenchman.
Cissokho’s most recent appearance in England came during the Emirates Cup, when his Valencia side finished top of the group to claim the trophy ahead of Arsenal.
Now, though, the 26-year-old could be playing his football at Villa Park. How will he fare against his former Liverpool team-mates?
