Robbie Fowler gives his verdict on Liverpool’s transfer business so far

The Reds legend believes boss Brendan Rodgers is doing things ‘the right way.’

For Fowler, Premier League experience is key for the coming season, especially with Liverpool’s squad lacking depth last time around.

The 39-year-old is thus impressed that Rodgers has sought out two players with notable top-flight experience in Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

Southampton’s stars of last season took the Premier League by storm and will now be producing those kind of performances at Anfield on a weekly basis.

“You know what you are getting with these players. They have played in the Premier League,” Fowler told talkSPORT.

“Liverpool’s weakness last season was the depth of the squad. Now Brendan is putting together a good squad.

“There is the league, the cups, the Champions League, so Liverpool need a much bigger squad.

“He is doing it the right way in getting in players who are established in the Premier League.”

Liverpool’s third signing, Emre Can, does not have any English top-flight experience, although he was a regular in the German Bundesliga, while his unique selling point may have been his time in the Champions League.

The same can be said of Lazar Markovic, who looks as though he could be on his way to Anfield, as the 20-year-old’s European experience could prove vital for the coming season.

It is the England duo of Lambert and Lallana that Fowler is most impressed with, though, as the pair’s knowledge of the physicality and high demands of the Premier League may give them an edge over younger European imports that may have a degree of settling to do before they hit top gear.
