Dusan Tadic claims his decision to leave Southampton was ‘easy’

Dusan Tadic has spoken for the first time about leaving Southampton for Ajax, claiming the decision to do so caused him no problems whatsoever.

Dusan Tadic has revealed to the Evening Standard that it was an ‘easy’ decision for him to leave Southampton, because he had nothing left to prove in the Premier League.

The Serbia international, who featured for his country in the 2-0 defeat to Brazil on Wednesday night, completed a £10 million move to the Dutch giants and will be officially unveiled as a player on July 1.

The 29-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal, and brings to an end his four year stint at the St. Mary’s Stadium after arriving from from FC Twente in 2014.

“I’m very happy because Ajax is one of the biggest clubs in Holland and the world,” Tadic told the Evening Standard.

“It was always my dream to be at Ajax. It was an easy decision because I had a lot of opportunities in the Premier League and other countries but I think Ajax is best for my future.

“I’m very proud because Southampton is not the biggest club in the Premier League and the Premier League is the toughest league in the world. I showed I can play there at high level.”

Tadic may have been one of the league’s better creators over the past few seasons, but he only managed to score 23 goals in 162 appearances for the club. Although not a complete borometer of success, one might have expected a better return.

The attacking midfielder returns to the Netherlands where he spent four years playing before embarking on his Premier League adventure with the Saints. He will be expecting to help Ajax claim a 34th league title, and a first since 2014.
