Could Arsenal’s impending transfer deals spark Tottenham into life?

Tottenham Hostpur have been quiet in the transfer market so far, but Arsenal’s activities could be the catalyst the Spurs fans are waiting for.

As reported by the Telegraph, Arsenal are close to signing Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen for around £22 million.

The Gunners have already secured a deal for Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus, and have been linked with Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The Telegraph also claim a deal for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira will likely be completed soon with talks progressing well between the player’s team and club officials.

The north Londoners certainly appear to be very busy as they try to rebuild following Arsene Wenger’s exit, but across the city, bitter rivals Tottenham have been particularly quiet so far.

The Lilywhites finished third last season and can look forward to another season in the Champions League in 2018/19, but Mauricio Pochettino undoubtedly needs to strengthen ahead of another long season, and the enviable activites across the city could be what sparks Spurs into life.

So far this summer, Spurs been making headlines for players been linked with moves away from the club, more than the players they could be bringing in.

On that, Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Grealish are the players to have been linked most heavily over the past week, as reported by football.london. Deals for both are said to be in the pipeline, but Daniel Levy has so far taken his time with the negotiations.

With Arsenal making moves, Levy will be acutely aware that mere activity from across the city will be enough to agitate the Spurs faithful, meaning it might not be too much longer before Spurs announce a signing or two of their own.
