Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Denis Zakaria.
Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele is all set to complete his move to Beijing Guoan, and that leaves Spurs with a hole to fill in their midfield ranks.
Spurs are allowing Dembele to head off to China before his contract expires this summer, bringing an end to nearly seven years at the club.
Dembele has noticeably waned over the last year, and it’s now imperative that Spurs bring in another midfielder who can provide the same drive through the middle of the park.
Sky Sports reported last week that Spurs have a host of targets in mind, with Borussia Monchengladbach ace Denis Zakaria believed to be on the radar.
Tall, powerful and rangy, Zakaria possesses many of the traits Spurs are looking for, but he hasn’t exactly enjoyed the best of seasons so far.
The Swiss international, 22, has started just eight Bundesliga games this season, finding it hard to get going as Jonas Hofmann and Florian Neuhaus have featured in the heart of midfield instead.
Zakaria has now admitted to Kicker that he isn’t exactly satisfied with his role right now, but vowed to keep working hard to win his place back in the Dortmund side.
“My first round was not that easy,” said Zakaria. “I thought after my first season in Gladbach that I would play more games. Everyone wants to play, and if he does not play he is obviously not satisfied.”
“I do not show that in the dressing room, because that’s just not good for the team, I can not be dissatisfied at home, so I have my family around me too, and my mother gave me courage and said, ‘Stay calm, your chance and time will come if you keep working hard’, he added.
