Chris Sutton has admitted to BBC 606 that he would, at this moment in time, pick Rangers boss Steven Gerrard over Neil Lennon.
The outspoken pundit did make it clear that Gerrard hasn’t won anything compared to Celtic’s man on the touchline, but when pushed to pick between the two, he sided with the Englishmen.
Whilst Celtic dropped more costly points over the weekend, Rangers secured a 2-0 win over Livingston to move six clear at the top.
The Gers have played a game extra than their rivals, as Sutton based his decision on picking Gerrard over Lennon because of that Old Firm win.
“At this moment in time, it’s a tough one,” Sutton told 606. “Steven Gerrard hasn’t won anything. There are no trophies. Neil Lennon has won five titles.
“Right now, you would probably have to say, well Rangers won, so you would probably have to take Gerrard, wouldn’t you just based on that.”
Whilst Rangers are flying high, it needs to be remembered that there is still a long way to go and those at Ibrox have been in this situation before.
The problem for Gerrard previously has been the manner in which they have performed during the second half of the campaign and that test will be there once again in a few months time.
Given that there is no winter break this season, it will be interesting to see if that benefits Gerrard and his players because it then prevents them from losing that momentum.
