Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has been left out of the squad to face Chelsea today amid speculation that he could join Newcastle United.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Antonio Conte has decided to leave Alli out of his squad for today’s game.
Tottenham are open to Alli leaving on loan before the transfer deadline, which is a week on Monday.
There is allegedly a ‘good chance’ that Alli’s transfer situation goes right down to the final hours of the window, because the current interest isn’t all that appealing.
Leaving Alli out today may just help accelerate talks with interested clubs, with Newcastle United one option.
The Daily Mail claim that Tottenham are expecting an approach from Newcastle for Alli in the coming eight days.
Newcastle are struggling to sign Jesse Lingard and may turn to Alli as an alternative to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad.
Alli, 25, has been given chances under Conte, most notably in the 2-2 home draw with Liverpool.

Alli’s last appearance came in the unconvincing 3-1 win over Morecambe in the FA Cup, which may have been the final straw for Antonio Conte.
Most at Tottenham will now agree that Alli just needs a fresh start away from Tottenham as he looks to recapture his best form.
Signed from MK Dons seven years ago, Alli burst onto the scene in the 2015-16 season, becoming a Premier League and England star.
After shining under Mauricio Pochettino, Alli’s performances have fallen off a cliff and he just hasn’t been able to get back to his best.
Joining Newcastle’s relegation battle may not be ideal in Alli’s mind, but if it’s a choice between heading to Tyneside or sitting on the Tottenham bench, he may be better off joining the Magpies.
