Tottenham Hotspur star Victor Wanyama’s long season is finally over.

Kenya were defeated in the African Cup of Nations on Monday, losing 3-0 to a superior Senegal side.

Wanyama had featured in all three of Kenya’s group games, losing two and winning just the one against Tanzania.

He now heads home, for a short rest, and will miss the start of Tottenham’s pre-season training next Monday.

Wanyama needs a break after the long season, but he can’t afford to be away from Tottenham for too long.

The new signing of Tanguy Ndombele is a major obstacle for Wanyama’s first team chances.

He did not end the season in good form either, and while he will want to fight for his place, Wanyama may soon come to the realisation that leaving Tottenham is in his best interests.
