Victor Wanyama: By The Numbers: How the Tottenham star fared against Chelsea: 20161127

Of all Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signings, Victor Wanyama is undoubtedly the best, immediately settling into Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield and performing week in, week out.

Some fans feel the Kenyan international’s arrival has upset the balance of the team yet they appear to be in the minority, with most hailing Wanyama’s steel and determination.

That was evident once more on Saturday when Tottenham headed to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

The Premier League leaders ran out 2-1 winners, but Wanyama did not deserve to be on the losing side, with his first-half performance in particular showing just what he is capable of.

The Tottenham player finished the match with a superb 92 per cent passing accuracy while he also played two key passes to set up goal-scoring chances for a teammate.

Wanyama recovered the ball seven times, won a very impressive nine duels and was successful with three aerial battles and two interceptions.

In short, he did everything asked of him and while he did tail off to a degree in the second half he still put in one hell of a shift.

Tottenham will need to turn things round quickly after a poor run of form, and despite his critics Wanyama will be key in that endeavour.
