Scott Parker, the Tottenham Hotspur academy coach, has emerged as a contender for the Ipswich Town manager’s job with the bookies.

Parker – who returned to Tottenham, the club he played for between 2011 and 2013, after hanging up his boots at Fulham last year – was 18/1 with Sky Bet at the start of the week.

But the 37-year-old’s odds have been cut by more than half to 8/1 since then, leaving him level with Shefki Kuqi, the former Ipswich striker, and behind only Jack Ross (2/1) and Paul Hurst (1/1) in the betting.

With the oldest of those just 43 – Hurst – it would appear that Ipswich have settled on the type of manager they would like to succeed Mick McCarthy at Portman Road.

Although, Parker is by far the least experienced of the bunch, and would represent the biggest risk, despite an impressive first season at Tottenham – in which his sides finished fourth in the league and reached the UEFA Youth League quarter finals.
