Tottenham Hotspur reportedly failed to sign Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham on the last day of the transfer window.

Tammy Abraham celebrates scoring their first goal during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Swansea City at Selhurst Park on August 26, 2017 in London, England.

Tottenham Hotspur quite famously failed to sign anyone this summer.

Spurs failed with attempts to sign Jack Grealish, Wilfried Zaha and Anthony Martial to name but a few.

But if rumours are believed then Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy left his most ambitious effort until the last day of the window.

According to Goal.com, the North Londoners tried and failed to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham with a £25 million bid.

If true, the move was surely doomed from the very start.

The Blues wouldn’t be selling a player of Abraham’s promise to an average Premier League team for that amount, but why on earth would they make an exception for Tottenham of all clubs?

Not only are they London rivals, and not only have they shared a number of ill-tempered battles down the years, but Chelsea will be competing with Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season.

Selling to Tottenham made absolutely no sense, if the report is true in the first place.
