Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on agreeing a move for Ryan Sessegnon, and may offload two fringe players.
Tottenham appear to be on the verge of unveiling their third signing of the summer, with The Telegraph reporting that Spurs are closing in on a deal to sign Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham.
After two windows without making a signing, this summer already looked set to be remembered much more positively for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, with Jack Clarke joining from Leeds and Tanguy Ndombele becoming the club’s most expensive signing ever.
And based on the terms of the deal set to bring Sessegnon to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it appears fair to say that Daniel Levy is on the cusp of completing another masterstroke in the transfer market.
The Telegraph reports that Spurs are set to pay £20 million plus add-ons for Sessegnon, with a breakthrough in talks coming when it became apparent that there may be scope for Josh Onomah and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou to head in the opposite direction at some stage in the future.
The report notes that it is not clear whether the Spurs pair are already included in the current offer, or whether Sessegnon’s switch could fund Fulham’s pursuit.
Tottenham look set to be the big winners whatever happens. But if they manage to recoup some of the £20 million that they look set to spend on Sessegnon by offloading two players who appear to have no future under Pochettino, it is even more inspired.
Sessegnon has enormous potential and seems to have been linked with almost every high-profile club in Europe since bursting onto the scene at Craven Cottage.
A £20 million deal looks to be an absolute bargain for Spurs. And Levy deserves enormous praise if some of that money is immediately returned to them.
