According to a report from the London Evening Standard, Tottenham remain locked in discussions with Aston Villa over the potential signing of Jack Grealish.

The west Midlands club are refusing to be bullied into accepting offers in the region of £20 million from Spurs for the midfielder, and after years of hard-nosed negotiation tactics from Daniel Levy, is the Tottenham chairman finally getting a dose of his own medicine?

Grealish, 22, is one of the most exciting young talents in English football, and Villa are quite right to demand more than £20 million for his signature.

With just six days remaining until the transfer window slams shut, and Spurs’ history of completing transfer deals at the last minute, this one will surely go right down to the wire, and it’s Villa who hold all of the cards.

With their new ownership, they are no longer in desperate need to sell, and with Tottenham fans growing increasingly more frustrated with their club’s lack of transfer activity, Levy might just be forced into paying more than he wants to for Grealish.

So often down the years the Tottenham chairman has worked wonders for his club, selling players at peak value, and signing stars such as Hugo Lloris and Tobey Alderweireld for bargain prices.

This summer might just be different, though, as Aston Villa seem to be playing Levy at his own game, and what’s more, they are winning.
