Should Tottenham look to sign Liverpool’s Adam Lallana?
Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana missed out on England’s World Cup squad after a disappointing season.
Injury restricted his playing time, and when he was fit, he simply found it too difficult to break into the Reds’ starting XI even with Coutinho’s departure.
Now with Liverpool targeting Nabil Fekir, Lallana’s prospects face being damaged further, and a move could be in his best interests.
Step forward Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino helped Lallana reach his potential during their spell together at Southampton, and the Spurs boss stuck up for him when the midfielder was uncharacterstically sent off in an under-23 game earlier this year.
If there is one manager who could tempt Lallana to leave Liverpool then it is Pochettino, and Tottenham can also offer him the chance to play Champions League football.
It was four years ago that Lallana swapped Southampton for Liverpool in a £25 million move and this summer seems his time could be right for him to seek a fresh challenge, rather than taking the easy option to stay put.
Pochettino is a big fan, quoted by FourFourTwo hailing his ability: “We haven’t seen a player like that in this country for a long time.
“Lately he has had a number of opportunities to get into the England national side so that is a very good thing for him.
“I am always telling him that he has the characteristics of a Spanish player and he has the skills of an Iniesta, Xavi or Fabregas.”
With Spurs claimed to be eyeing Jack Grealish at an inflated fee, Lallana is simply a better quality alternative, and if Tottenham can show they want him enough, they might stand a chance of making it happen.
