Liverpool should battle Tottenham for David Neres.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly turning their attentions to Ajax winger David Neres as a deal for Malcom becomes more unlikely, according to Goal.
Neres has been at Ajax since last January and has been outstanding this season, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists.
But while Neres is considered a back-up plan for Tottenham, Premier League competitors Liverpool should really be making him their first choice.
The Reds have money to spend after cashing in on Coutinho, and their shortcomings without the Brazilian were highlighted in the defeat to Swansea City.
Neres is a player who has previously been tipped to emulate his compatriot. Brazilian journalist Paulo Freitas told Ajax Showtime earlier this year that he has high expectations for Neres.
He said: “He belongs to the best players of Sao Paulo. In a few games he has played at the highest level, and made a huge impression.
“I think he can reach the level of Coutinho, although I do not see him growing to the level of say a Neymar.”
Neres is only 20 and is making a big impact in Europe already.
He is an impressive dribbler with an eye for goal and able to pick out a pass, and would give the Reds real options beyond Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in wide positions, giving Jurgen Klopp more freedom to rotate and balance his squad more efficiently with the heavy fixture schedule.
If Liverpool allow him to move to rivals Tottenham unchallenged it could be a mistake, and one which sees them beaten to a top four spot.
