Tottenham Hotspur’s Argentinian goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga is coming to prominence for club and country.

Paulo Gazzaniga has told Clarin he thought that he was being pranked by Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino when he informed him of his Argentina call-up.
The Tottenham goalkeeper was a surprise inclusion in the Albiceleste’s squad for two upcoming friendlies against Mexico during the international break.
Gazzaniga, who joined Spurs from Southampton in 2017, has not yet been capped by his country.
The 26-year-old has been in excellent form during the past month or so after finally getting chances under his Pochettino.
But Gazzaniga has told Clarin in his native Argentina that he couldn’t believe when his compatriot told him about his promotion at international level.
“I was surprised by the call-up. I had no indication that they were going to call me. I had been doing my job as usual and it caught me off guard. Mauricio told me and I thought he was joking,”
Gazzaniga has been exceptional in recent weeks and, well, it wouldn’t be a huge shock if he were to start 2019 as Spurs’ number one.
Hugo Lloris had a decent game in the Lilywhites’ 1-0 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday, but he also suffered a number of hairy moments and Pochettino must be tempted to give him the chop.
The Frenchman, a World Cup winner, is brilliant on his day, but he seems to be becoming more unreliable on a regular basis and if Pochettino feels Gazzaniga can stem the tide of goalkeeping mistakes, he should put him in.
