Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko waits to come on as a substitute
Tottenham’s new signing Moussa Sissoko has told The Telegraph that Everton’s dithering over his transfer meant he headed to White Hart Lane instead.
Sissoko, 27, made headlines on transfer deadline day just over two weeks ago, as he left Newcastle United to join Tottenham Hotspur in a blockbuster deal.

After struggling for Newcastle in their relegation campaign last season, Sissoko starred for France at the European Championships over the summer, and those displays earned him his big move to North London.
Sissoko has only made substitute appearances for Spurs so far, but a start can’t be too far away, as he looks to repay the huge fee forked out by Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy.
Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko before the match
As reported by Sky Sports, Tottenham splashed £30m on Sissoko, and beat Everton to his signature in remarkable circumstances.
It’s claimed that Everton had agreed a deal to sign Sissoko, but when manager Ronald Koeman attempted to contact the midfielder to finalise the move to Goodison Park, Sissoko didn’t answer any calls – and ended up joining Tottenham instead.
As Sissoko gears up for his potential White Hart Lane debut against Sunderland this weekend, he has now discussed what happened with Everton in an interview with The Telegraph.

Sissoko claims that he had spoken to Everton before making his move to Spurs, but states that they didn’t make an official offer when he first spoke to them – and their dithering opened the door to joining Tottenham instead.
“It’s simple,” said Sissoko. “I spoke with Everton in the past, but they didn’t make an offer to Newcastle when I wanted. And then Tottenham came. And so when they came, I wanted to join this club directly. Because, like I said, it’s a big club. So in my head, everything was clear. I wanted to sign here, that’s why I came here,” he added.
