Torreira was hailed as a cornerstone of Arsenal’s rebuild when he signed for Unai Emery’s Gunners a year ago from Sampdoria.
He had a superb first few months to start the season, before his performances began to fade, but this should be expected in his first season in England, and after no break due to the World Cup.
So it comes as a worry to Arsenal supporters that Torreira is being linked with a move back to Italy.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports AC Milan are pushing to sign Torreira, and that he is keen on a move.
Arsenal should not consider sanctioning this, especially with Tottenham strengthening their midfield.
Torreira cost Arsenal £26 million last summer. Arsenal shouldn’t just write off their bargain investment after one season, or they will risk being left further behind.
