Everton were linked with Moussa Sissoko back in 2016.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told The Mirror that claims he had turned his back on Everton simply weren’t true.
Spurs head to Goodison Park this afternoon to take on Marco Silva’s Everton side, and will be looking for a fourth straight Premier League win.
Mauricio Pochettino may choose to rotate his side after beating Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in midweek, but midfielder Sissoko could play a key role.
The Frenchman is enjoying his best season for Spurs so far, giving fans a major surprise having mostly struggled since a 2016 move from Newcastle.
His deadline day move to North London was seen as somewhat controversial, amid claims that he had shunned a move to Everton in order to join Newcastle.
Ahead of facing Everton today, Sissoko has suggested that he found the situation ‘funny’ as it simply wasn’t true, claiming no deal was set up for him to go to Everton.

Sissoko sugested that he did speak to Ronald Koeman about a move but left it up to Everto, and with the Toffees stalling, Spurs swooped in to sign him.
“It was funny,” said Sissoko. “When I signed I was in the office with the chairman and I saw on the TV, ‘Sissoko was on his way to Everton, but then he went back and came to Tottenham’ It wasn’t true. Before I signed here, I talked with Koeman, the manager of Everton, on the phone. He wanted me to join Everton and I said, ‘You have to speak with Newcastle and my agent, and if you find an agreement, why not?”
“On that day, we didn’t have anything. Then on the last day of the transfer window I came here and everything was nearly done with Tottenham. So in my head, it was clear. I was happy because I wanted to leave Newcastle and had the opportunity to sign here,” he added.
