Sissoko has sparked into life at Tottenham this season.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told RMC Sport that he was hurt by his omission from France’s World Cup squad in the summer, as Didier Deschamps’ side went on to win the tournament in Russia.

The 29-year-old has starred for Spurs of late, starting the last five matches for the north Londoners and earning huge praise from fans during the 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

His form has seen Deschamps recall him to the France side for their fixtures against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League before a friendly against Uruguay next week.

Former Newcastle man Sissoko told RMC Sport, as translated by Get French Football News, that he was hurt by Deschamps’ snub for the World Cup but is keen to earn his stripes once again.

“My aim has always been the same. To try to perform and to produce results with this team. Individually, I want to put in good performances if I receive playing time and to stay in the team for as long as possible,” Sissoko said.

“The fact that I was not in Russia was a regret, yes, I was a little hurt, but that is part of football, there are highs and lows. I had the chance to be at the Brazil World Cup and the Euros in France.

“Sadly, the Russian World Cup did not follow, but I am not beaten, I still have a career in front of me. Now it is up to me to try to play in the future big competitions.”

A £30million signing from Newcastle in the summer of 2016, Sissoko is finally beginning to prove his transfer fee under Pochettino after being re-positioned by the Argentine manager.

Indeed, Sissoko has been playing in the middle of the park rather than on the right flank, allowing him to become more involved in possession and transition of play. He has a contract at Spurs until 2021, worth £80,000 a week (Spotrac).
