Marcus Edwards impressed on his loan away from Tottenham Hotspur last term.
Tottenham Hotspur prospect Marcus Edwards has told The Independent that his attitude has come on leaps and bounds since spending last season in the Netherlands.
Edwards dazzled for Eredivisie side Excelsior during a season-long loan away from Tottenham last term.
It seemed to be the making of the 20-year-old, whose previous loan away from Spurs didn’t go all that well.
The Lilywhites talent joined Norwich City in 2018 but questions arose over his commitment, and Edwards, who made just one appearance for the then-Championship side, saw the transfer terminated in April of last year.
This is a player who Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino once likened to Lionel Messi [Sky Sports], and the young prodigy himself has suggested that he knows what he wants out of the game now.
He told The Independent: “I definitely think I’ve got a better attitude now. I’m just ready to kick on with my career. I think I needed this year.
“I know I’m a good player, I know I can do what I want to do.
“It has made me have a clear vision of what I want in football. I just want to get as high up to the top level as I can.”
Impressing in Dutch football is one thing, but there’s still a hell of a lot of work to be done before he’s ready to dazzle for Pochettino’s Tottenham team.
The potential is there, but talent isn’t enough in football. Attitude and application are essential and until Edwards can prove his hunger, on a long-term basis, he probably won’t be appearing for the North Londoners’ senior side.
