Why Tottenham Hotspur defender Milos Veljkovic should consider a loan move to Celtic next season.
Tottenham teenager Milos Veljkovic could turn out to be the ideal replacement for Jason Denayer at Celtic, if the two clubs decide to put their heads together to work out a deal.
Denayer has had a dream season in Glasgow on loan from Manchester City, winning one trophy already and appearing odds on to land to Scottish Premiership.
He has also played in the San Siro against Inter Milan, and earned an international debut for Belgium. Manchester City ar said, by The Mail to have decided against sending him back up to Scotland to test him at another level.
This leaves Celtic looking at alternatives, and if they wish to attempt to replicate the Denayer deal, there are few better options than Tottenham’s Veljkovic.
The Serbian under-21 international is just 19, and has experience in the Championship with Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic.
The first of those was a short-term loan, and the second saw his season cut short after he suffered a shoulder injury in only his third game. Another spell on loan is surely needed to aid his development, and Premier League clubs are unlikely to have ignored the benefit Denayer has gained north of the border.
The 19-year-old made his return for Tottenham’s under-21 side last night as captain, showing how highly regarded he is at the club, also having featured for the first team in pre-season.
He was even handed a Premier League debut under Tim Sherwood at Spurs at the end of last season.
If he could spend a successful year at Celtic then he may just come back to Spurs ready to make an impact on the first team in 2016/17. At present he is yet to convince he deserves to be elevated above his status on the fringes of the squad, like Denayer at the start of the year at City, whose chances of making it in Manchester have had a valuable shot in the arm.
