Aston Villa kick off their Premier League campaign at Tottenham Hotspur too.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he doesn’t quite know what to expect from Aston Villa.
The Villans visit North London in their Premier League opener this evening.
It’s Aston Villa’s first top-flight game in over three years and manager Dean Smith has certainly ensured that they have a good chance of survival, spending well over £100 million on some 12 players.
In any case, the Tottenham manager admits that he’s a fan of his ‘excellent’ counterpart and believes Smith’s side will make it difficult.
He told Football London: “The manager is an excellent manager, who I know very well from Brentford when we played them. For sure, he is going to find a way to perform in the best way, but in the beginning of the season it is a question mark.
“We know it is different from pre-season when you start in the Premier League, but for us it is about focusing on ourselves and the areas we need to improve ourselves.”
Spurs have a few new additions themselves to flaunt, but Tanguy Ndombele is the only one likely to start against Villa.
On deadline day, Pochettino pulled off deals for Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon, meaning that the Argentine has signed four players in total – the other being Jack Clarke, who returned to Leeds on loan.
