Tottenham Hotspur have taken everyone by surprise in the Champions League this season.
When speaking to reporters in February 2018, Lucas Moura made the incredible prediction that Tottenham are capable of winning the Champions League, as quoted by the Guardian.
The Brazilian joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2018, for around £23 million according to BBC Sport, and despite a slow start to life in north London, he is now considered to be an important part of Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
When Lucas arrived at Tottenham, many would have thought it to be a far-fetched fantasy for Pochettino’s side to progress through to the latter stages of Europe’s premier competition.
But that’s exactly what they have done this season.
The 26-year-old was Tottenham’s savour in the semi-final of the Champions League, scoring a dramatic second-half hat-trick against Ajax.
And Moura’s comments from February 2018 now make for really interesting reading, as quoted by the Guardian:
“Why not? The Champions League is the most difficult cup but I think we have the capacity to win if we always think positive, always work hard. Every player wants to win trophies and to make history and I am here to make history and I think we can dream with the Champions League.”
Tottenham still have to beat Liverpool if they are to achieve glory in Europe this season, but the way their European campaign has gone this season, it would be no surprise to see them leave Madrid victorious.
And judging by Moura’s comments from last year, he always had faith that it would be possible.
