Manchester United were beaten to the signing of Lucas Moura in 2012 when they were outbid by big spending Paris Saint-Germain.

In January they were strongly tipped by to win the race for his signature at the second time of asking after being put up for sale by the French side.

SkySports reported they had expressed an interest earlier in 2018 – but they ended up sitting back and saw him sign for Tottenham Hotspur instead.

Lucas has been gradually working his way into the Tottenham team, and he could have a prominent role to play as the season goes on.

Now with United and Tottenham set to do battle in the FA Cup semi-finals, Lucas could really make the Red Devils pass up their decision not to sign him.

Striker Harry Kane is an injury doubt for the fixture, and at the weekend Lucas was given a start in the quarter-final win over Swansea as Spurs shuffled their side around.

Lucas has now featured in both rounds of the FA Cup for Spurs he has been eligible for and will hope to make a big impression against United.

He failed to make the most recent Brazil squad – a result of his stop-start season so far.

A big performance in a high profile cup-semi final could prompt a re-think from the Selecao, and leave Manchester United wondering if they made a terrible mistake.
