The Tottenham Hotspur pair got on the score sheet in the Champions League this week.
Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signing Fenando Llorente finally got off the mark when he opened the scoring against APOEL Nicosia on Wednesday evening, while winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou also found the back of the net after an impressive showing against the Cypriot side.
But the hard work starts now for the pair, with goals in a dead rubber against the whipping boys of the group nothing to write home about.
Players have to start somewhere, and the Tottenham men can draw plenty of confidence from their latest performances. However they will know that it is an entirely different thing performing and scoring in games that actually matter.
N’Koudou has shown glimpses of his ability during his Tottenham career, but he needs to add consistency to his game – something that will only come if his manager Mauricio Pochettino gives him more chances on the field.
At 32, Llorente should be doing far better, as his 15-goal campaign for Swansea City last time out proved, and it will be interesting to see how he responds to finally breaking his duck, with chances likely to come over the hectic Christmas and New Year period.
Football is a squad game and Tottenham’s fringe players stepped up this week; now they need to build on that to ensure they are not looking back at a handful of decent games at the end of the season, and can instead reflect on a job well done.
