The Tottenham Hotspur right-back has rarely been used this season but that does not mean he will not be vital in some key matches.
With Kyle Walker excelling for Tottenham Hotspur this season, fellow right-back Kieran Trippier has had to wait patiently for his chances, appearing only four times in all competitions to date.
One of those was against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last month and the former Burnley man will be expected to start in the reverse fixture this evening, where he will be looking to build on his impressive showing last time out.
Trippier was one of Tottenham’s best performers when they travelled to Germany and he needs to maintain those high standards this week, ensuring his manager Mauricio Pochettino continues to pay attention.
The problem for fringe players is consistency – both that displayed by the man they are trying to usurp and their own need to develop some in the few games they are granted.
Trippier showed against Leverkusen that he is ready for the fight and another solid showing could help Tottenham to more than just a vital three points; it could also prove he has the ability to step in for Walker on a consistent basis if and when he is needed.
