Argentina lost 2-0 to Brazil in the Copa America but Spurs defender Foyth stepped up in style against Everton Soares.

Brazil went into their own Copa America on home soil with some of the biggest attacking talents in world football at Tite’s disposal, from Barcelona’s record signing Philippe Coutinho to Premier League stars Roberto Firmino, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison.
But, until Tuesday night’s heavyweight semi-final clash against old rivals Argentina, an explosive, right-footed winger who still plays in Brazil on a weekly basis had been the standout star of the 2019 Copa America.
To say Everton Soares has been a revelation would be no exaggeration. With two stunning long-range goals to his name, Brazil’s fans have fallen in love with a player who brings back memories of their Jogo Bonito peak and his dazzling performance against Peru was arguably the greatest individual display in the entire tournament so far.
So Everton approached the Argentine meeting in unstoppable form. Until he met Juan Foyth that is.
An erratic and at times much-maligned defender who has endured two difficult seasons in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, few would have given Foyth a hope of stopping Everton. Lining up in an unfamiliar right-back role, he looked like a lamb being led to the slaughter.
But Foyth stepped up in style, channelling his inner Dani Alves to produce a fabulous performance and leave Brazil’s star man on the fringes, subbed off at half time after managing no shots, no key passes and failing to complete a single dribble.

Argentina might have exited in the last four, going down 2-0 to a Gabriel Jesus-inspired Brazil in Belo Horizonte, but Foyth did his part in style, showing why Tottenham believe he has the talent to really make a name for himself in North London.
According to Calciomercato, Liverpool want Everton in one of the most ironic transfer stories of the summer while Tuttomercatoweb claims that Manchester City have made a £40 million bid.
But if Everton does arrive at Anfield or the Etihad, perhaps he should be left on the bench against Tottenham.
