Tottenham Hotspur were too good for Swansea City in the FA Cup yesterday.
Tottenham centre-back Jan Vertonghen spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s 3-0 FA Cup win over Swansea City yesterday, and offered high words of praise for the manner in which he and his teammates went about their business at the Liberty Stadium, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Spurs are now through to the semi-finals of the cup, and are within touching distance of winning their first trophy since Mauricio Pochettino took over as manager way back in May 2014.
The Lilywhites had to cope with the disappointment of being dumped out of the Champions League by Juventus last week, but they have responded in superb fashion, chalking up two wins, first in the Premier League away at Bournemouth, and then in the cup against the Swans.
Vertonghen, 30, spoke to reporters after the game, and explained how he and his teammates knew how patient they would have to be at the Liberty Stadium, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“We started well, controlled the game and scored at the right times, early and again just before half-time, perfect. We knew we were going to see a lot of the ball so the key was to play with a high tempo, stay focused at the back and score. We did those three things.”
Tottenham now have to wait until April 1st before they play again – their crucial clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where a victory could seal their place inside the top four.
