The midfielder’s six-and-a-half year spell with Tottenham Hotspur came to an end today.

Tottenham ace Jan Vertonghen spoke exclusively to the club’s official website in the wake of Mousa Dembele’s exit from the club, and admitted that it angers him whenever the Belgian is omitted from discussions regarding the best Premier League midfielders of all-time.
The 31-year-old completed his £9 million switch from Spurs to Guangzhou R&F today (London Evening Standard), and many of the club’s fans will surely be sad to see the midfield powerhouse leave for pastures new.
And all of his Tottenham teammates will undoubtedly miss him too.
Vertonghen raved about Dembele’s quality, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website, suggesting that he was very emotional to his countryman leave the club today:

“Oh very, very emotional. We see a great player go and for me a great friend. You have to ask the players who have played against Mousa or with Mousa to get the appreciation he deserves. Sometimes it made me angry a bit, that people talked about the best midfielders in the Premier League and didn’t name Mousa.”
Only time will tell if Tottenham really miss the former Fulham man, but Mauricio Pochettino must surely be on the look-out for a long-term replacement for the experienced deep-lying midfielder this month.
Dembele’s skillset was so wonderfully unique, however, that that will be a lot easier said than done for the Argentine.
