Tottenham ace Jan Vertonghen spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s comfortable 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday, and insisted that he is currently at the very peak of his powers, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The 30-year-old joined Spurs form Ajax in the summer of 2012, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £12 million, and he has since gone on to establish himself as one of the continent’s best central defenders.

He has played a key role for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this term, appearing in all but one of Tottenham’s 29 Premier League outings thus far, and he returned to action on Saturday for his side’s clash with the Terriers.

Vertonghen spoke to reporters after the game, and expressed his current state of happiness, having returned to action so quickly, and bullishly declared that he is playing the best football of his career, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“I missed two games and that’s a shame, but I feel very good, I appreciate the fans and it’s good to see that they appreciate me. We’ve known each other for a while now and it’s a good feeling! For me, I think it’s going very well, personally and obviously with the team too. I’m in good shape, I think I’ve been on top of my game for a couple of months now and I feel very good.”

Next up for Spurs is their huge clash with Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday night, and Vertonghen will have to be at his very best, if his side are to keep the Italian champions at bay for the entire 90 minutes at Wembley.
