Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris votes for Zidane over own manager; Pochettino responds

The Tottenham Hotspur star voted for the Real Madrid boss in the Men’s Coach of the Year category.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference, and responded to a question asking him if he would be having a word with Hugo Lloris after the French goalkeeper opted for Zinedine Zidane as his choice for Men’s Coach of the Year at last night Fifa awards, as quoted by popular football news website Football.London.

The Argentine has worked wonders in his role as Tottenham boss during the three years he has been in charge in north London, and his stock has risen so much that he is now being regularly linked with the manager’s job at Real Madrid.

And his fine work has obviously not gone unnoticed.

He received 32 votes at the awards ceremony last night, but surprisingly, Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris picked Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane as his number one choice in the Coach of the Year category.

And Pochettino responded when asked if he would have words with the Frenchman, as quoted by Football.London:

“Who was number one on his list? (Told it was Zidane) Ok, he’s French. For me it’s ok. I’m happy, it’s normal. Yesterday Zidane received the trophy for best manager and I think he deserved to be the number one.”

The 30-year-old has been in fine form for the Lilywhites so far this season, and continues to be a cornerstone of their impressive defensive displays.

And if Spurs are to challenge for major honours on all fronts this season, they will need Lloris to be at his brilliant best for the entirety of the campaign.
