Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has told the London Evening Standard that they need help from fans against Borussia Dortmund.

Sunday’s 3-1 win over Leicester City was vital, but it wasn’t the most impressive of displays from Mauricio Pochettino’s men as the Foxes showed a real threat.

At 1-0, Leicester had a penalty saved by Lloris, and Spurs got a little bit out of jail as they saw off Claude Puel’s men despite their threat going forward.

Most Spurs fans will acknowledge that it was far from their best performance of the season, and much better will be needed on Wednesday night as they take on Borussia Dortmund.

Spurs return to Champions League action on Wednesday as they meet Dortmund in the last 16 of the competition, having edged through the group stages in the last game.

Dortmund may be without injured star Marco Reus, but they sit five points clear of Bayern in the Bundesliga table, and will surely cause major problems for Spurs.

Lloris has acknowledged that playing at Wembley can be ‘difficult’ to deal with, and called on fans to really help the Spurs players cope with a ‘very, very difficult’ game against Dortmund.

Lloris warned his teammates too, suggesting that they really need to improve massively from Sunday’s game, believing that a ‘bigger side’ than Leicester would have beaten them, and they can’t afford to play like that against Dortmund.

“It’s going to be very, very difficult,” said Lloris. “We need to improve the team performance compared to yesterday and we need the stadium to help us. Some days it’s difficult to deal with Wembley but, hopefully, in this big game we’ll receive this help from the crowd. Leicester played fantastic and we won the game thanks to our spirit and character. Without that, we could not win. [But] we need to improve the team performance.”

“Against a bigger side we couldn’t have won that type of game. It’s up to us. But the most important thing was to get another three points in a difficult period. We kept consistency, so it’s a great feeling in the changing room. Leicester had 20 shots and against a bigger side it would be difficult to win that way. But sometimes you deserve to win, like the game against Man United, and you lose. Yesterday, Leicester deserved better but we won. This is the League. The mentality is great in the changing room and we showed that again on a difficult day,” he added.
