Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has returned to the international set-up after previously being left out.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has admitted that he still finds it uncomfortable trying to put his arm around a new player because he doesn’t feel established yet with England.
Winks returned to England’s set-up after being left out of Gareth Southgate’s previous squad, which was their UEFA Nations League outing in Portugal during the summer.
England will take on Bulgaria and Kosovo in Euro qualifiers in these coming days, as Winks will be hoping to return to England’s starting line-up.
Speaking to Kick Off on TalkSport (04/09/2019 at 8:20 pm), Winks shared his thoughts on returning to the England set-up and still feeling like a new player.
“I still feel like I have been in and out of the squad the last couple of years so I don’t really feel like I am fully established to go around and put my arm around somebody and tell them how it’s going to be because I still feel a little like that myself,” Winks told TalkSport.
“I think it’s a good thing to feel that way because you are then striving to do better and always trying to impress and do well. It’s a nice feeling to have.”
Winks has progressed very well under the stewardship of Mauricio Pochettino in recent seasons, but he will be hoping to take his game to that next step.
The Euro’s are around the corner and Winks will be hoping he can produce the goods at club level and at the international level, which ensures that he now keeps his places in Southgate’s thoughts.
