The Tottenham Hotspur player is developing at an impressive rate.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is proving categorically that he is the real deal, with his latest performance against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League showcasing his innate talent.
That said, the match was something of a dead-rubber – at least in terms of qualification for the knockout stage of Europe’s elite competition – and Winks will have much tougher challenges to come.
His biggest to date – if Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is brave enough to select him – will come this weekend when Spurs face Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Winks excelled not only against CSKA but also against West Ham United in his only league start to date, and while he has been used sparingly since, the 20-year-old has what it takes to play from the outset against Jose Mourinho’s men.
There is nothing quite like throwing a player in at the deep end, and against world-record £89million signing Paul Pogba, the resurgent Ander Herrera and former Tottenham star Michael Carrick, Winks would certainly have to be at his best to come out on top on Sunday afternoon.
Yet he is capable of holding his own against such talent, and his recent showings prove that he deserves a chance at Old Trafford.
It remains to be seen if Pochettino will take the risk, but of all Tottenham’s exciting youngsters Winks is one of the very best and it is time he was tested against the finest the Premier League has to offer.
