Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and shared what Mauricio Pochettino told him before bringing him on as a 75th minute substitute, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The 33-year-old joined Spurs from Swansea City in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £12 million, but he has struggled to establish himself in north London.

He is a useful option to have from the bench, however, what with his strength in the air and his ability to link up play between the midfield and attack.

Llorente spoke to reporters after Tottenham’s win over PSV, and shared the instructions given to him by Pochettino before he took to the field of play with just 15 minutes remaining, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“My instructions against PSV were to be in the box with Harry and help him, to be there, contribute and help us to score,” our number 18 explained. I think we did very well in the final minutes of the game and I was happy that I could help the team.”

The Spaniard undoubtedly made an impact, setting up Harry Kane for the Englishman’s first goal, and he will be hoping to be given more opportunities to shine for Tottenham over the course of the next few weeks and months.
