The Tottenham Hotspur hitman scored his club’s vital third goal last night.

Tottenham hitman Fernando Llorente spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s 4-3 defeat to Manchester City last night, and shared what Mauricio Pochettino told him before bringing him on in place of Moussa Sissoko after just 41 minutes, as quoted by the club’s official website.

Despite losing against City at the Etihad last night, Spurs progressed through to the semi-finals of the Champions League due to the away goal rule, after the tie finished 4-4 on aggregate.

Tottenham were already without their talisman Harry Kane last night, as well as midfield maestro Harry Winks, so losing Sissoko before half-time would have been a big blow for Pochettino and his players.

The Argentine surprisingly brought on Llorente in place of the Frenchman, and the 34-year-old shared with reporters what his manager told him before sending him onto the pitch last night, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“My instructions were to play in front of Lucas, be strong and try to help the team bring the ball forward, because it was difficult and a few times we needed to play the ball long.”

Tottenham now face Ajax in the semi-finals of the Champions League, and what an incredible tie that promises to be.

And with Kane out injured, and Heung-Min Son suspended for the first-leg, Llorente will surely have a key role to play for Spurs against the Dutch outfit.
