Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli’s positive contribution against West Brom has been overlooked.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is at the centre of controversy after appearing to land a punch on Claudio Yacob during his side’s draw against West Bromwich Alvion on Monday.

Alli has since been charged by the Football Association, and faces a potential three match ban which would rule him out of all of Spurs’ remaining fixtures, against Chelsea, Southampton, and Newcastle United.

As a result of this incident, and with Tottenham drawing, Alli’s positive contribution with the ball at his feet has either gone unnoticed, or simply been ignored.

Just 24 hours after he was crowned as the PFA Young Player of the Year, Alli delivered his most creative display of the Premier League season, and by some margin.

Alli created six goalscoring chances for his teammates, more than double his previous high of three, which he had achieved in nine separate games this season.

Unfortunately for Alli, who has nine assists through the campaign, his efforts counted for nothing as Spurs dropped two crucial points in their Premier League title hunt.

Alli is now unlikely to feature again for Spurs this season, and will next be involved for England at Euro 2016 and the lead up to it.

Roy Hodgson will hope he has learned his lesson from a disciplinary point of view, but the Three Lions boss really needs Alli’s creativity to carry on just where it left off.
